Context — Privacy Policy
Context ("the App") is an on-screen overlay dictionary developed by NeuroDev Labs ("we", "us", "our"), Lagos, Nigeria. This policy explains what information the App processes, why, and the choices you have. The short version: Context only reads text when you ask it to, sends only that text for analysis, and never sells your data.
1. Information We Process
- Text you select for lookup. When you trigger a lookup, the word or passage you selected (plus a small amount of surrounding text needed for context) is processed to generate a definition or explanation.
- Lookup history. Your past lookups are saved locally on your device so you can revisit them. They are not synced to our servers.
- Basic diagnostics. Anonymous crash reports and performance data (device model, OS version, error traces) to keep the App stable. These contain no lookup content.
Context does not require an account, and we do not collect your name, contacts, location, or browsing history.
2. How On-Screen Reading Works
Context runs a floating overlay above your other apps. It reads screen content only at the moment you trigger a lookup — it does not continuously monitor, record, or store what is on your screen, and it does not log keystrokes. When no lookup is in progress, the overlay is dormant.
Sensitive screens: avoid triggering lookups on screens showing passwords, banking details, or other confidential information — anything you select is processed as described below.
3. Where Selected Text Goes
- Firebase Vertex AI (Google). Selected text is sent to Google's Vertex AI service to generate semantic "vibe" translations. Transmission is encrypted, and processing is transient — we do not operate our own store of your lookups. Google's handling is governed by the Google Cloud Privacy Notice.
- Dictionary APIs and Wikipedia. For classical definitions and factual fallbacks, your query term may be sent to public dictionary APIs and Wikipedia.
We do not use your lookup content to train our own models, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
4. Permissions the App Requests
- Display over other apps — required for the floating overlay window.
- Screen text access — used solely to capture the text you select for a lookup, at the moment you trigger it.
- Network access — required to reach the AI and dictionary services.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
Lookup history lives on your device: clear it any time from the App's settings, or remove everything by uninstalling the App. Diagnostic data is retained only as long as needed to diagnose and fix issues.
6. Security
All network traffic between the App and processing services is encrypted in transit (TLS). Locally stored history is sandboxed to the App by the Android operating system.
7. Children
Context is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly process children's personal data. If you believe a child has used the App in a way that concerns you, contact us and we will help.
8. Your Rights
We operate under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA). You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold, and you may withdraw consent to processing at any time by discontinuing use of the App. To exercise any right, email us at the address below.
9. Changes to This Policy
If we change how Context handles your data, we will update this page and revise the effective date above. Material changes will also be announced in the App.
